How to start a chat

1. Open a patent — from your Alerts, your Patents watchlist, or any patent detail view.
2. Open Chat with Patent.
3. Type your question, or pick one of the suggested quick questions to get going.

Questions you can ask

The chat is designed for questions like:

• “What does this patent claim?” — understand the scope in plain language.
• “Summarize the key innovations.” — get the gist without reading the whole document.
• “What are the potential risks?” — see why it might matter to you.
• “Who are the inventors?” — pull out specific facts quickly.

You can also ask your own follow-up questions — for example, how the patent's wording compares to one of your own, or what a particular technical term means.

What makes the answers useful

The assistant answers based on the patent's actual content — its claims, abstract, and description — so the responses stay grounded in the document in front of you, rather than vague generalities.

Managing your chat

Your conversation is saved so you can return to it. You can clear a patent's chat history at any time with Clear chat history; you'll be asked to confirm, because this can't be undone.
